# Autotune online, free — no plugin, no install

To autotune your voice online, upload a vocal to IchiPitchy. It detects every note plus the key and scale automatically, then snaps the notes into tune. Level sets how hard notes snap — from a natural correction to the hard robotic effect — and Smooth decides how much vibrato survives. Tuning is free and unmetered.

## Two controls do most of the work

Level is the amount of correction. At low values notes are nudged toward the scale and the performance still sounds human. At 100% every note locks to the grid, which is the hard, obviously-tuned sound.

Smooth governs what happens between notes. Turn it up to preserve vibrato, slides and ornamentation; turn it down for the flatter, more synthetic character.

## Key and scale detection

Autotune only sounds right when it snaps to the correct scale — snapping to the wrong key is what makes a tuned vocal sound worse than the original take. IchiPitchy detects the key and scale of your upload on import and pre-selects it, and you can override both if you want a different tonality.

## When automatic is not enough

Automatic tuning is a starting point, not a ceiling. Every corrected note stays editable: drag a note block on the piano roll to move its pitch, or double-click it to reshape its pitch curve with control points. Advanced per-note formant, timing and vibrato edits are available too.

You can also describe what you want in plain English to the built-in AI assistant — for example "warm, light autotune in E minor" — and it will dial the settings in for you.

## Pitch correction basics: cents, keys and drift

Pitch is measured in cents — 100 cents is one semitone. Most listeners start noticing a sung note is off somewhere around 15–20 cents; below about 5 cents nobody hears it, which is why perfect tuning is not the goal. Correction strength is really a question of how many cents of error you allow to survive.

Three different problems get called 'out of tune'. Static offset is a note that sits flat or sharp for its whole length — the easiest to fix. Drift is a note that starts in tune and slides away, common on long held notes. Scooping is the slide up into a note, which is usually intentional and worth keeping; correcting it flattens the phrasing and is the most common way a tuned vocal ends up sounding worse than the take.

## Tips for auto-tune that does not sound processed

- Get the key right first. Snapping to the wrong scale forces notes onto pitches the singer never sang, and no amount of Level adjustment rescues it.
- Start Level around 30–50%. Full 100% is a deliberate effect, not a repair.
- Keep Smooth high on emotional or sustained passages so vibrato survives; lower it on fast rhythmic lines where vibrato just smears.
- Fix outliers by hand rather than raising Level globally — one flat word does not justify processing the whole performance.
- Listen to the transitions, not the notes. Artefacts almost always appear where one note runs into the next.

## Step by step

1. **Upload your vocal.** Import the take. Every note plus the key and scale are detected automatically.
2. **Confirm the key and scale.** The detected key is pre-selected. Override it if you want a different tonality.
3. **Set the correction amount.** Level controls how hard notes snap; Smooth controls how much vibrato survives.
4. **Fix anything left by hand.** Drag a note on the piano roll, or double-click it to reshape its pitch curve.
5. **Export.** Render a lossless 24-bit WAV.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is this autotune really free?

Auto-tune, key and scale detection and note-by-note editing are free and unmetered — there is no limit on how much you tune. Audio exports are the metered part: two free downloads a month, resetting every month, and unlimited on IchiPitchy Pro at $3. MIDI export is always free.

### Do I need to install a plugin or a DAW?

No. IchiPitchy is a web app, not a VST or a download. It runs in a desktop browser tab.

### How do I get the hard T-Pain style effect?

Set Level to 100% and turn Smooth down. That locks every note to the scale and removes the vibrato that otherwise softens the effect.

### Can I autotune to a specific key?

Yes. The detected key and scale are pre-selected on import, but you can choose any key and scale yourself.

### What does it export?

A lossless WAV, rendered server-side at full quality rather than from the browser preview.

### How much autotune is too much?

It depends on the genre, not on a number. Level around 30–50% reads as a corrected but human vocal; 100% is the deliberate locked-to-the-grid effect. The giveaway of too much correction is usually flattened vibrato and audible jumps between notes rather than the pitch itself.

### Why does my vocal sound worse after autotune?

Almost always the wrong key. Snapping to a scale the singer did not sing forces notes onto pitches that were never there. Check the detected key first, then lower Level and raise Smooth.

### Can I autotune only one word or line?

Yes. Rather than raising the global Level, select the individual note block on the piano roll and correct it — the rest of the performance stays exactly as sung.

### Does autotune fix timing as well as pitch?

No, they are separate. Auto-tune only moves pitch; per-note timing offsets are available separately in the editor.
